• Baltimore Woods Clean Up with SOLVE

    We will be pulling 3 types of vines (Sweet Pea, Clematis, Blackberry) that have grown up on native bushes ( Red Twig Dogwood, Ocean Spray, etc). Tools, Gloves, Water and snacks are provided. Please wear closed-toe shoes. All volunteers must bring their own masks and wear when working close to each other, even while staying 10 feet apart. The work area is alongside the road and 12′ or so into the woods, with plenty of space to spread out. Please be prepared to social distance during this event.     Join us for “Butterflies of the Oakwoods, and How to Make Them Welcome” – a Winter Talk with Robert Michael Pyle. Robert Michael Pyle is a lepidopterist, writer, teacher, and founder of the Xerces Society. He has a Ph.D. in ecology and environmental studies from the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies; his dissertation focused on butterfly eco-geography. He has published 12 books on nature. A book signing will be available after the talk. Please bring your own books if you have them. Sliding scale fee: $5 – $10.   • No Ivy Day at Baltimore Woods

    Join Friends of Baltimore Woods and Portland Parks & Recreation on October 26th for the annual No Ivy Day! Projects at the Baltimore Woods site will include blackberry and ivy removal, litter cleanup and brush clearing. Please wear long thick pants, a long-sleeved shirt and sturdy shoes. Bring a water bottle, rain gear and sunhat. Instruction, tools, gloves, water, coffee and snacks provided.     Join us for a FREE presentation about past, present and future restoration efforts in North Portland at the Native Plant Society of Oregon (Portland Chapter) meeting on September 12th   Description: Volunteer land stewards in a St. Johns neighborhood along the Willamette River have protected a narrow strip of remnant White oak savannah habitat abutting an industrial area. Baltimore Woods includes a meadow planted with native plants after depaving and eradicating invasive species and a section of the planned North Portland Greenway Trail, the Willamette River Trail connection through the Woods all the way to Kelly Point where the Willamette joins the Columbia River.
